Applied Polyvagal Theory in Childbirth
Aligning the Mind and Body for Birthā„¢
Why nervous system understanding matters: This course explores the underlying neurophysiology of childbirth and explains why specific coping strategies, such as rhythmic movement and vocal tone, can support clients in labor. Participants learn how to apply nervous system insights to guide students and clients more confidently.
Professional recognition and CEUs: Continuing education units (CEUs) are available through DONA International, supporting your ongoing professional credentials and lifelong learning goals.
A NOTE ON POLYVAGAL THEORY
Some of the underlying anatomical and mechanistic claims of polyvagal theory have recently been refuted. While Porges is actively involved in the debate, I use polyvagal theory as an organizing framework for teaching purposes, recognizing that the ventral and dorsal vagus language may be outdated.
